Description
PK Paddle Tours Summer Guides are highly motivated educators who love to be outdoors sharing the natural world with their community. They work alongside the owner to develop and implement interactive tours that allow participants to fall in love with the nature of New Hampshire’s unique ecosystems through a kayak tour that teaches them about local conservation and sustainability practices, often highlighting our partners in the shellfish industry. Summer Guides are committed to providing safe outdoor adventures with the goal of fostering connections with the natural world and inspiring people to protect it. You will develop skill sets that are valuable to the outdoor recreation, tourism, and environmental education fields. We cultivate a friendly, relaxed environment that shows people the beauty of nature and the enjoyment of fresh oysters!

Responsibilities
• Participate in kayak skill development and environmental education training prior to leading tours. This will include paid tour shadowing experiences.
• Assist with the planning and coordinating tours with the owner, setting up and transporting kayak gear as needed (you will not be required to drive a trailer).
• Communicate with tour participants prior to the tour to ensure they have the correct information and will be able to enjoy the tour comfortably.
• Facilitate/lead tours of 4-10 program participants in hands-on, outdoor, nature-based learning experiences while kayaking safely in the bay.
• Maintain a professional work environment, which includes equipment cleanup and storage of program gear and materials.
• Prioritize safety of program participants while on and off the water.
• Help with marketing and promoting PK Paddle Tours through social media and in-person events as needed.
Qualifications
• Must be over 18 to apply
• Good public speaker and customer service skills
• Able to have a flexible work schedule that changes weekly
• Must be able to lead two to five two-hour tours a week
• Have a basic familiarity with and understanding of the marine wildlife that live in the Great Bay area. Also, have an interest to learn about the history of successful conservation that has safeguarded the nature of the Great Bay.

Physical Demands
The physical demands listed are representative of those that must be met by the employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the position. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to talk, hear, sit, stand, and walk. Occasionally the employee is required to bend/stoop, crawl/kneel, carry, reach, push/pull, walk over uneven terrain, and lift up to 60 lbs. Employees are required to apply limited manual dexterity in combination with eye-hand coordination, such as basic keyboarding, basic hand tools and instruments, filing, operating office equipment, and operating a motor vehicle.
Kayaking skill is required. Summer guides will have to show comfortability in performing basic kayak rescues and towing kayaks in order to be cleared to lead tours. Must be able to kayak continuously for up to three hours.
Compensation
Summer guides will be paid for each two-hour tour they offer at a rate that is commensurate with their experience ranging from $80-$200.
